‘Néstor Almendros’ season

Traductor de Google:

Cinema. We’ll have the chance to see films by Rohmer, Truffaut or Malick in which he participated as director of photography, as well as documentaries and experimental pieces that he directed.

Born in Barcelona in 1930, Néstor Almendros went into exile in Cuba in 1948 due to Francoism, from where he then went into exile again, fleeing Castroism in 1961 to become a citizen of the world. He created the bulk of his work between France, Italy, the United States and Barcelona.

His Oscar-winning work as a cinematographer demonstrated that natural light could be more powerful than any studio technology and that technical simplicity could make him one of the great masters of light. The fact that his name appeared in films by Rohmer, Truffaut, Malick, Benton or Schroeder certifies that Almendros had, in addition to talent, intuition.

However, the retrospective features, first and foremost, his work as a director of documentaries and experimental pieces, with which he reveals his ethical and political commitment, in addition to a critical and deeply human perspective that complements his visual wisdom.
