Symphonic. The OBC presents Bernstein’s famous work, with Pablo Ferrández and Ludovic Morlot.

L'Auditori de Barcelona is offering the concert West Side Storya week before Christmas, on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 December.

At the heart of the programme is the Cello Concerto in B minor by Dvořák, the last work that the composer created in the USA (1895). To perform this magnificent and irreducible piece, the OBC will be joined by the cellist Pablo Ferrández, a soloist renowned for his sensitivity and profound knowledge of the work. The concert culminates with a martial finale calling for a heroic mobilisation of energy, with the triangle in action and a “prodigious duet with the cello”

Dvořák’s spectacularity, with his Bohemian rhythms, is again reunited with its spiritual successor, Leonard Bernstein. The evening opens with the exultant and ironic Overture for the operetta Candide, based on Voltaire’s text. The concert culminates with the famous symphonic dances of West Side Story, which rewrite Shakespeare’s tragedy of impossible love in the context of a multicultural metropolis.

Duration: 120 minutes.
