Rebecca Saunders: 'Skull'

L'Auditori de Barcelona is hosting a concert in the Sampler series on Thursday, 16 October, with Skull , a piece by the British composer Rebecca Saunders. The concert is in the Sala 2 Oriol Martorell and will be performed by the Ensemble MusikFabrik, conducted by the composer and director Enno Poppe.

Skull is part of a set of three compositions by Rebecca Saunders: Skin (2016), Scar (2019) and Skull (2022/2023). Skull is conceived for a large combination of 14 instruments, including wind, percussion, electric guitar, Korg BX3 organ and strings.

In connection with the other works, Skull explores a rich tonal wealth and offers a formal consistency that includes sound fragments and gestures from Skin and Scar, transforming them and condensing them towards the acoustic essence and idea of the “inner structure” of sound.
