‘Hécube, pas Hécube’

Theatre. A theatrical essay or a police investigation? A woman from classical Troy or a mother from our own time? Theatre and justice are key elements in this show.

Synopsis

Tiago Rodrigues likes to address audiences directly. He does so again in Hécube, pas Hécube. This is a story of theatre within the theatre, played by an actress rehearsing the role of Euripides’ Hecube, and more precisely, the part of Priam’s widow.

Troy has lost the war and she will also lose everything: husband, freedom and children. This is a woman who wants justice, perhaps as much as the woman playing her. Because the character and the performer almost reflect each other: the autistic child of the actress confronts abuses which she talks about and which she tries to combat during the production.

The audience attends the rehearsals for the show the protagonist will perform, but also a legal investigation. Will she find the justice she is looking for? Will her character find it?
