‘Benjamin a Portbou’

Traductor de Google:

Opera. The work focuses on the ideas, loves and spirituality of the philosopher Walter Benjamin, taking as its starting point the final episode of his life: his suicide in Portbou in 1940.

Benjamin a Portbou is an opera commissioned by the Gran Teatre del Liceu from the maestro Antoni Ros-Marbà. Written in 2 acts and 13 scenes, with a libretto by Anthony Carroll Madigan, it centres on the life of philosopher and literary critic Walter Benjamin.

For Ros-Marbà, writing this opera was like an unfinished chapter in his long musical career. The libretto for the opera, written by the scholar Tony Madigan and shaped by the author’s profound knowledge of the life and works of Walter Benjamin (Berlin, 1892–Portbou, 1940), is a literary work of art, calling out to be set to music and staged.
