‘Toulouse-Lautrec and the spirit of Montmatre’

Traductor de Google:

Montmatre is not just the setting for many works by the multi-faceted Toulouse-Lautrec, but also the social and cultural epicentre which defined modern style and the Bohemian character.

Using paintings, drawings, posters and illustrations, ‘Toulouse-Lautrec and the spirit of Montmatre’ displays the work of the artist, in tune with the group of contemporary artists in Paris at the end of the 19th century.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (Albi, 1864 – Château Malromé, 1901) and other artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Jean-Louis Forain, T. A. Steinlen, Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard all helped this ground-breaking movement to flourish beyond the bourgeoisie.

The exhibition, which consists of 350 pieces loaned internationally from public and private collections, represents a journey around Bohemian Paris at the turn of the 20th century. A multi-disciplinary display to comprehend the fundamental role of the spirit of Montmatre in the development of modern art, and the way that Toulouse-Lautrec and his contemporaries influenced the evolution and production of ephemeral art with posters, illustrations, prints and designs, opening the Bohemian spirit and artistic creations up to new audiences.

XIX.
