'Keisuke Kinoshita' Series

Cinema. A retrospective dedicated to a key figure of postwar Japanese cinema.

From 15 to 29 October, the Filmoteca will be presenting a series dedicated to Keisuke Kinoshita, one of the most distinctive figures in postwar Japanese cinema. A filmmaker renowned for his empathetic perspective on society's most vulnerable groups, Kinoshita explored genres ranging from family melodrama and satire to anti-war narratives.

His films highlighted complex, spirited female characters - often played by Hideko Takamine - as well as male protagonists who defied the archetypes of the era.

The showcase brings together his most iconic titles in restored, digitised versions, notably Twenty-Four Eyes (1954) and The Ballad of Narayama (1958).
