History. A night-time programme to discover what Barcelona was like in the 1700s.

The Barcelona City History Museum presents the Born by Night programme of activities.

1. Walk: Crime Stories. Conflict, Violence and Justice in the 1700s. Thursdays, from 2 July to 17 September, 8 pm to 10 pm.

Barcelona in the 1700s was full of human stories that have come down to us thanks to the extensive documentation preserved from the period. Among them are episodes of conflict, hatred and revenge. This walk offers an insight into the city's darker side and invites us to reflect on everyday violence 300 years ago. On the one hand, the archaeological site allows us to recover these stories involving the men and women who lived in Born. On the other hand, a short walk through the neighbourhood introduces us to the workings of the justice system and the punishments it imposed in a dynamic, complex city that never slept.

2. Guided Tour and Workshop: Archaeology by Night. Fridays, from 3 July to 18 September, 8 pm to 10 pm:

Looking at the past through a microscope. Microscopic remains reveal what Barcelona's landscape was once like and what its inhabitants ate. This experimental, hands-on activity takes place at night, when the centre is closed. Participants will sieve samples of organic remains like those uncovered at the archaeological site and uncover the diet of Barcelona's residents in the 1700s. Afterwards, during a night-time tour of the remains of the streets and houses from that period, we will explore the city's landscape and its surroundings, the diet of its inhabitants and even the diseases that were most common.
