‘Sarah Maldoror’ season

Traductor de Google:

Cinema. A complete retrospective of the Guadeloupean-French filmmaker, which will be presented by her daughter and the preserver of her work, Annouchka de Andrade.

Sarah Maldoror (1929-2020) is an essential figure for understanding the cultural and political movement of Négritude, a political activist, poet, mother, feminist, filmmaker and playwright.

In 1972 she directed Sambizanga, in which she portrayed the anti-colonial struggle in Angola, and she became one of the first female film directors to work in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Despite its visibility, Sambizanga is just a small part of the prolific work of Maldoror, who from the 1970s to 2009 directed some fifty films films for cinema and television.

The efforts of her daughter Annouchka de Andrade and the restoration work carried out by entities such as the Cineteca di Bologna, World Cinema Foundation and the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'Image Animée have helped to recover her filmography, which will be screened in this extensive retrospective of her work.
