Barcelona Christmas lights

Traductor de Google:

Lighting. Every evening, over 126 kilometres of illuminations light up the magic of Christmas in Barcelona.

The city’s Christmas lights move towards the Barcelona Christmas Lights model, which aims to consolidate Barcelona as an international role model when it comes to Christmas festivals, while promoting the commercial revitalisation of the city’s neighbourhoods.

There will be 126 kilometres of illuminated spaces around all districts from 22 November to 6 January 2026, with new formats.

They include proposals by five designers with new installations in Plaça Catalunya, Aragó, Gran Via and for the first time in the new Via Laietana, after Barcelona City Council launched a competition to promote the city’s visual identity through new proposals from the design sector.

The designs were conceived by the winners of the competition, as a result of the collaboration with ADI-FAD, the Industrial Design Association. They are ARTEC (Plaça Catalunya), APO (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes), SMLXL + MA-MA (Aragó Street) and Esther Pujol (Nahtrang Studio) and Martà Cerdà (Via Laietana). The Brosmind proposal, originally released in 2023, will once again take over Passeig de Sant Joan.

Prioritising less central locations, over twenty totems or light structures will also be installed in the form of Christmas symbols around different points in the city.

Attention has also been given to spots in the shade for long periods, which may affect commerce, lighting up twenty public spaces and street sections in different neighbourhoods. These actions cover more space in terms of kilometres, including 23 streets in the districts of Ciutat Vella, Les Corts, Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Sant Andreu, Sant Martí and L’Eixample.

In the Invigorating the Neighbourhood Retail Sector project, 28 sections will be lit in various streets in the districts of Ciutat Vella, Sants, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí. Also, 63 streets will be lit up as part of the Neighbourhood Plan and the façades of the 39 municipal markets will once again be decorated with Christmas lights.

Over thirty decorative fountains in the city will have Christmas lights this year, as will the Mestral and Gregal wharfs at the new Port Olímpic as part of the collaboration with key stakeholders in the city such as BSM, and routes will be designed for spaces and made available on the illumination map on the Christmas website.
