Schedule

The work Stripsody (1966) by Cathy Berberian is the starting point of the show curated by Arnau Horta which is currently open at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge and of these workshops targeted at families with children aged 7 and up as part of the La Mercè programming.

Made up wholly of onomatopoeic sounds inspired by the language of comics, Berberian's work is a radical exploration of the voice as an expressive vehicle. It articulates sounds, pantomimed gestures, musical textures and an over-the-top theatricality that incorporates the visual and objectual universe of the genre via graphically suggested drawings and actions.

Cristina Cubells and Àlex Tentor have designed the Stripsoding project to be both fun and educational. They are offering a collective creation workshop which explores the connection between the piece and the spontaneous gesture to rematerialise it through an expanded macro-sound score.

The outcome of these workshops will be part of a participatory sound installation which will be open in the museum’s temporary exhibition room until 28 September.

On 27 September at 5.30 pm, Arnau Horta will offer a guided tour of the Stripsody show at La Virreina (La Rambla, 99) targeted at the workshop participants and families. Further information and free registration HERE (link to website in Catalan).
