Heritage. Discover the details of life at the monastery with a tour of the main parts.
Every Saturday, the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes organises a guided tour around various part of the site.
The tour is conducted by somebody with Asperger’s syndrome. The goal of the project is to normalise the coal and labour situation of the collective through the potentially transformational means of culture, and at the same time their personal autonomy, breaking down stigmas and prejudices in connection with people with this condition.
The Monastery of Pedralbes was founded by Elisenda de Montcada in 1327, with the support of her husband, King Jaume II.
The building is one of the finest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture, with its church, cloister and three floors offering one of the most spacious and harmonious examples of this style. One of the most interesting features of the church is the Sepulchre of Queen Elisenda, which has two sides; one giving onto the church and showing her dressed as a sovereign, and the other giving onto the cloister and showing here as a widow and penitent. Equally interesting are the 14th century stained glass windows, various sepulchres of noble families and the three choirs stalls: the upper choir, the lower choir and the friar’s choir.
Duration: 1 hour.

Project developed in collaboration with the Monestir de Sant Cugat and the Fundació Friends.
Discover the details of monastic life through a tour of the main spaces of the complex. The visit is led by a person with Asperger’s syndrome, an autism spectrum condition characterised primarily by difficulties in social interaction, restrictive and repetitive patterns of behaviour, and intolerance of change and unforeseen situations, without any associated significant impairment of intellectual ability.
Guia’m is a labour inclusion project launched at the Monestir de Sant Cugat in collaboration with the Fundació Friends, enabling people with Asperger’s syndrome to work as guides in cultural institutions. The project aims to normalise the social and working lives of this community through the transformative potential of culture, while also fostering personal autonomy and challenging stigma and prejudice surrounding people with this condition.
