‘Iron Techniques From Craftsmanship to Industrial Production’

Traductor de Google:

Design. A small-format exhibition looking at iron as a key material in the history of design, industry and cultural material.

The exhibition Iron Techniques. From Craftsmanship to Industrial Production offers an insight into different historical and contemporary ways of working with iron, from craftsmanship to industrial production.

Through objects from the Museu del Disseny, original tools, drawings and photographs, the exhibition shows how processes such as smelting, extrusion, plastic deformation, union systems, work with bottletops and finishes have configured very different results from both functional and aesthetic points of view.

Traditional ironworking techniques (casting, forging, working, tempering and welding) exist alongside industrial processes that have allowed for serialising and mechanisation, generalising the use of iron in everyday objects, architecture, product design and artistic creation.

The dialogue between historical pieces and contemporary design highlights the continuity of this technical knowledge and its capacity for adaptation over time.
